Formed five years ago by Steve Hill (guitar), Matt Gilmore (bass) SKAM are a three-piece, hard rock band based in Leicester, UK. With the latest addition of Neal Hill on drums, SKAM are at their strongest ever. With over 450 gigs to their name to date and having played in every major city in the UK and Ireland this is a crack live unit with a stage show second to none. Influenced by bands such as AC/DC, Iron Maiden and The Foo Fighters the band have a reputation for delivering no-nonsense, gutsy, classic British rock music. Their passion and conviction as a live act has resulted in a strong local following, with one notable local reviewer dubbing them “Leicester legends.”
SKAM completed two UK and Ireland tours in 2012. In March they supported The Answer/The Union then in November they toured with BONAFIDE. The guys played a number of head line shows and a number of festival performances. These festivals include Cambridge Rock festival, the Bulldog Bash and Hard Rock Hell 6. They played a total of 70 gigs in 2012 in every major city in the UK. The band decided to work on a new album in 2013 so went into the studio. They still managed to play 2 large summer festivals. Simon Says festival in Leicester, which sold out and Steelhouse festival in Wales.
Their debut album “It’s Come to This” was released through Casket Records in December 2011. It was recorded at Axis studio in Doncaster, UK with Hard Rock producer Matt Elliss (Black Spiders, Terrorvision) From this album the band released 3 singles. “No Lies” was the first single released and was supported by a video. This track came in at number 3 in a Classic Rock Magazine poll the week of its release beating Joe Bonamassa and Slash. Single 2 was “Dead from the Waist Down” which was featured in Metal Hammer magazine. The final single was “Massacre” This track got a lot of air play as it was added to the Planet Rock playlist for three months. In January 2014 this track came in at 30 in the Classic Rock Magazine “Tracks of The Year” poll. There was also a video released to support this.
2014 has seen the band get back to their roots. They embarked on a 12 date UK tour in February to coincide with the release of the single “RIVERS” This release was supported by a “Day in the life of” video using footage from the 2012 Answer tour. The new album “PEACEMAKER” was released in July 2014. Once again it was produced by Matt Elliss. The album captures the pure power of a SKAM live show. The album received rave reviews from the likes of Classic Rock Magazine, Metal Hammer, Kerrang! and many on line reviewers.
With a killer new album released the band wanted to get back on the road to play the tracks live. The PEACEMAKER Tour Part 1 kicked off in Sheffield on August 7th 2014 and then took the band all over the UK., taking in 15 dates. This was the most successful tour to date with a number of Cities hitting maximum capacity. With SKAM proving themselves as a tight touring band that like to Rock hard and have fun, it was no surprise they got asked to support Aussie hard rockers Airbourne on their short UK tour at the end of August. These 3 dates were sold out and both bands received top live reviews. To finish off 2014 the band will once again hit the road. November will see the band get back in the “SKAM Van” to play the Cities missed in August. PEACEMAKER Tour Part 2 is another 11 dates across the UK including performances at Hard Rock Hell 8 and Planet Rock Stock.
2016 see the band back in the studio working on their 3rd album. This will be a concept album based around a time travelling pilot. The guys will be working with Matt Elliss again following the success of the 2 previous records. The band are still keeping up their reputation as “Road Dogs” between studio time with a number of gigs and festival appearances already confirmed for the summer. One thing is for sure, they will continue to spread their Hard British rock across the UK and into Europe.
